''Dangerous Desires'' - Cath Butler’s Joynt Verture.

Smoky jazz blues club music from S.E. Queenland. Cath is out front & in charge here. Her husky, seen it all singing tells sneaky lying fellas to their face, how it is they screw up what might have been. It never does any good thank heavens or there would be no reason for these type of songs. However, traditionally, by the next song she is missing them and needs them back any way – where’s the justice?  The bands smooth skilled rolling backing leaves Cath to do the heavy lifting with her strong don’t mess with me vocal style. She co-wrote these scenarios of seedy love gone to song with guitarist Chris Harvey.   The cover notes suggest there is a very healthy local culture of musicians working here.  It’s no surprise to learn that there are still venues in those parts hosting this moody classic stuff as the need for it is eternal- despite whatever current trends throw up.   However, we are still arguing over the cover graphics – are those brown socks with eyes or wayward cartoon sperm?
